Liverpool Confirm Ramsay Loan Move As Slot Shapes Squad

Ramsay Departs As Slot Reshapes Squad

Liverpool defender Calvin Ramsay has joined Wigan Athletic on loan, becoming the first player to leave the club under new manager Arne Slot.

Ramsay, 19, signed for Liverpool from Aberdeen for £6.5 million in 2022 but has struggled to break into the first team, making just seven appearances.

The Scotland Under-21 international will now spend the 2023/24 season in League One with Wigan, who are managed by former Liverpool defender Kolo Touré.

Ramsay's departure is part of a wider reshaping of Liverpool's squad under Slot, who replaced Jurgen Klopp as manager in May.

The Dutchman has already signed three new players this summer, with Fabio Carvalho, Darwin Núñez and Calvin Ramsay all arriving at Anfield.

Slot is expected to make further additions to his squad before the transfer window closes on September 1st, with a new centre-back and a midfielder among his priorities.

Liverpool are also likely to allow a number of players to leave the club this summer, with Nat Phillips, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Takumi Minamino all linked with moves away.

The Reds begin their Premier League campaign at Fulham on August 6th.
