Boston Bruins: A History of the Team's Logo
From a Brown Bear to the Spoked-B
The Original Logo (1924-1936)
When the Boston Bruins entered the NHL in 1924, they adopted a logo featuring a brown bear in mid-stride set against a yellow-scripted Boston wordmark. The brown-and-yellow color scheme was selected to coordinate with the Adams chain of grocery stores, which owned the team at the time.
The Spoked-B (1936-1948)
In 1936, the Bruins introduced a new logo that would become synonymous with the team for decades to come. The logo featured a stylized brown bear's head set inside a black circle with yellow spokes emanating from the circle. The Spoked-B logo was designed by artist Fredrick Chapman and was inspired by the Boston Red Sox logo.
The Return of the Bear (1948-Present)
In 1948, the Bruins brought back the brown bear to their sweaters. The bear was now depicted in a more realistic style, and the yellow-scripted Boston wordmark was replaced by a black-scripted Boston wordmark. This logo has remained the Bruins' primary logo ever since.
